Canterbury ICare Faster Team Wins International Healthcare Award

Congratulations to one of our clients for their recent global recognition and award win.

The Canterbury ICare Faster team, and Emergency Medicine Specialist Martin Than who led the project, have recently won a Teams of Achievement award at the 2026 global UNIVANTS of Healthcare Excellence Awards.

These awards recognise interdisciplinary care teams around the world who have achieved measurable, innovative impact within the healthcare system.

The award recognises ICare Faster (Improving Care by FAster risk-STratification in the EmeRgency Department), which introduced high sensitivity point of care troponin testing at Christchurch and Ashburton Hospitals.

Troponin is a protein released into the blood when heart muscle is damaged, and testing for it is how clinicians confirm or rule out a heart attack. The old test could take over an hour to come back; the new bedside test delivers a result in minutes instead.

Rachael Johnson from our team worked alongside Martin and the wider team to help manage delivery of the project, and we're incredibly proud to have played a part in work that's improving emergency care for patients, and the award recognition is icing on the cake.

Congratulations again to everyone involved, including Christopher Florkowski, John Pickering, Vanessa Buchan, Laura Joyce, Tamsin Attenburrow and Sally Aldous.
